A little about me, my interests and the purpose of this blog

Updated: Jun 10, 2021

Welcome to my blog! Bienvenue, Onè!

I am excited and nervous at the same time to start this journey. By nature, I am not an open book, and to be completely honest, a tad sensitive to criticism. So, the idea of sharing my passion and journey on the internet is scary! But a little voice inside is telling me to do it, so I am taking the leap and running with it. Blogging will by my way of keeping my creative hobbies active and to advocate for the causes I care about.

The hobby that makes me money: I am a civil engineer specialized in water resources & hydraulics and I work for an engineering consulting firm on urban infrastructures (put simply, I plan for water and wastewater/poop pipes under the city roads of many cities in the Quebec province). During my studies, I took an interest in water, sanitation and environmental issues around the world, so I try to advocate for these particular causes. And as a black woman in a STEM field (that's science, technology, engineering and math), I like to advocate for girls going into science if they choose to as it is mainly a male dominated field - less so every year.

At my core, I am a child of God, a grateful daughter, a loving sister, a loyal friend, and a devoted wife. That sounded like a perfect person there, but we all know there is no such thing! We might get into some flaws on blog #10 perhaps, but for now let's stick with a good first impression :) And last but not least, I am Haitian - born and raised! Quebec, Canada is my lovely second home.

When I am not working, or creating some kind of interior design concept in my head or Pinterest, I like to : catch a good movie with the hubby, spend time with mother nature, create something with my hands, sipping on a fresh cup of coffee (you'll quickly discover my love affair for this magical bean!), or catching up with my favorite peeps.

My husband Oli, and I (#CynOli) we will soon move into our first place together, located in Montreal. This blog is my way of documenting the process of turning our place into a loving and comfortable home for our family and friends. There are 3 main aspects I would like to feature on this blog:

  1. Home décor - How we (mostly I, lol) plan on designing the interior and exterior of the home to make it functional and incorporating décor elements influenced by Haitian culture

  2. Sustainable living - How can Oli and I, as home owners and responsible citizens of the world, will strive to live a simple, sufficient and sustainable life in Montreal? And hopefully encourage others to do the same.

  3. Repairs, refresh, & DIYs - Sharing our adventures (or misadventures) of tending to tenants' needs for repairs, and DIY projects around our own apartment and backyard.

I am no expert in interior design, sustainable living or the 'handyman' life, but these are things I want or will have to do as a home owner. My passion for home décor and sustainable practices will push me to learn new things and gladly share them with you along the way.

<<Nou pati!>> (let's go)

Thank you for stopping by and reading my blog.

With love,

- Cyn
